13 October 2019 – Different languages have inspired different types of literature, world views, story-telling. And we can access those worlds thanks to the people skilled in creating language associations and finding the right words to ensure understanding.

The latest edition of L’Espresso publishes a fascinating article by Olga Tokarczuk, a highly regarded Polish writer and winner of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Literature, whose work is translated into twenty languages. She also has a large following in Italy thanks to her novel Bieguni (“Flights”), published by Bompiani in 2018 with the title “I vagabondi”.

In her article, Tokarczuk examines the strategic role of translators. “They have saved the civilised world,” she proclaims.
