June 26th, 2018 – Can great apes really use language in the same way as humans?
The Gorilla Foundation announced the death of the gorilla Koko, which has become famous all over the world for its ability to use American sign language to communicate with men.
Koko, who was 46, had been followed by Dr. Penny Patterson from the age of one and had learned to use a thousand signs, combining them with each other, and was able to understand about two thousand words. Twice she had appeared on the National Geographic cover.
